Item Information

The purpose of this policy notification (PN) is to inform all Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) Acquisitions Program (AP) employees about the option available to them to electronically sign their contractual documents using their MyKey or Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate.

A brief description of the process is presented in section 7.1, subsection c. of the Supply Manual.

No changes are required to the Standard Acquisition Clauses and Conditions Manual or the Standard Procurement Templates.

Context

All PWGSC employees have a secure electronic credential known as MyKey (or a PKI certificate). This technology can be used to electronically sign contracts, standing offers and supply arrangements in conjunction with a PDF writer software. While some PWGSC AP employees have already been electronically signing their contractual documents using this technology, others were not aware of this option.

The Architecture Review Board of the Chief Information Officer Branch (CIOB) of PWGSC has assessed and determined that the use of MyKey (or a PKI certificate) to electronically sign a contractual document is an acceptable practice for PWGSC AP employees.
